Human Society and Its Environment is the key learning area in which students develop knowledge and understanding of people and their social and physical environments.

At St Patrick’s, we implement the NSW K-6 Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum, which is organised into two subject areas – History and Geography. The aim of History is to stimulate students’ interest in and enjoyment of exploring the past, to develop a critical understanding of the past and its impact on the present, to develop the critical skills of historical inquiry and to enable students to participate as active, informed and responsible citizens and to help students understand their own and other societies.

The aim of Geography is to stimulate students’ interest in and engagement with the world. Through geographical inquiry, students develop an understanding of the interactions between people, places and environments across a range of scales, in order to become informed, responsible and active citizens and develop a sense of personal identity and responsibility in a personal, national and global sense.
