Our school library is a learning hub and the dynamic heart of our school. It has been designed as a flexible learning space to promote collaboration and communication, and it has a warm and inviting feel.
It is a resource that enables teachers to assign suitable spaces that are conducive to independent work, small groups and whole-class instruction. The library is also used by parents and staff for meetings and professional development activities. Our library is not always a quiet space, but it is a productive space with a broad and carefully selected range of books and technology resources. It is an area in which to read, relax, create, meet, study and enjoy.
Our library’s management software, “Oliver”, is a fully web-based system that can be accessed from any desktop or tablet device, allowing students to discover library and learning resources 24/7.
We regularly arrange visits from children’s authors and illustrators. Our students participate in the annual NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge, and they have regular opportunities to purchase books from the Scholastic Book Club, as well as the annual book fair run in conjunction with Book Week. Our school’s Book Week parade is a highlight of our year at St Patrick’s.
