At St Patrick’s, we aim to ensure the transition into Kindergarten is a smooth and positive experience for the children. Each child is assigned a Year 5 “buddy” to assist with the transition.
Our kindergarten transition program involves three mornings for the children to visit the school, to engage in unstructured and structured activities, and to get to know their buddies. These transition mornings are also an opportunity for the parents and carers of the children to socialise with one another, to learn about school readiness, and to become acquainted with the school’s routines and procedures.
Most of our Year 6 students transition to St Mary’s Catholic College, Gateshead. St Mary’s facilitates a transition day in Term 4 each year for its new intake of Year 7 students. The St Mary’s transition program is a wonderful opportunity for the Year 6 students from the various feeder schools to become acquainted with one another. St Mary’s also facilitates parent information evenings at the college.
