By providing programs and activities for all ability levels, St Patrick's
challenges each student to achieve their potential in each Key Learning Area. Our school places importance on fostering a love of learning and on
assisting children to take responsibility for their own learning.
In regard to the school curriculum, Australian schools are in a transitional phase. At present, the curriculum at St Patrick's encompasses Religious Education and the six Key Learning Areas as prescribed by the New South Wales Board of Studies. These Key Learning Areas are:
We have a specialist teacher who teaches music to all of the classes. In Years 5 and 6, many musical concepts are covered through a ukulele program. Every second year we put on a school musical. The students of Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in ASPIRE, a Catholic Schools Office initiative that showcases the talents of students in music, singing, dance and drama.
The school's Visual Arts program ensures that the students are exposed to a variety of artistic techniques. These techniques include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital art, fibre, photography and ceramics. During the weeks leading up to St Patrick's Day each year, the school runs a St Patrick's Day art competition. The winning artworks are displayed in the school foyer.
We offer physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills.
Sport and physical activity are a valued and accepted part of our school's
curriculum, contributing to the development of the whole child. They provide a vehicle for social, physical, emotional and moral learning and are an important expression of our culture.
The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the cornerstone of the school sport / physical activity program. All of our students take part in the sport programs.
For the purpose of whole school sporting events, the students are divided into three house teams: Seagulls, Pelicans and Swans. Siblings belong to the same team.
The students also have the opportunity to represent St Patrick's at school, regional and diocesan swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals as well as a variety of team sports, including netball, soccer and Rugby League.
